Crowley East Bay Met School’s Green Team in Newport, Rhode Island for their outstanding work to preserve New England’s environment. The Green Team is the recipient of the Environmental Protection Agency‘s 2011 Environmental Merit Award for Environmental for Community, Academia & Non-Profit Organizations.
Cicilline, Langevin Announce RI Rail Grants, Stress Importance to State's Recovery
U.S. Congressmen David Cicilline and James Langevin announced U.S. Department of Transportation grants for Rhode Island rail projects that will create jobs and help provide more efficient travel. The resources, which were made available when Florida Governor Rick Scott rejected high speed rail funding earlier this year, included $25 million for an additional 1.5 miles of a third track in South Kingstown that will be able to manage high-speed trains, and $3 million for renovation work at the station in Providence.
Rhode Islanders Need Immediate Price Relief at the Pump
Just as gas prices in Rhode Island topped $4 per gallon, Congressman Cicilline urged House Speaker John Boehner to bring two measures to the House Floor for a vote that would provide immediate relief to consumers from the rising price of gasoline. In a letter to Speaker John Boehner, Cicilline wrote, “Until our nation makes the necessary and sustained investments in clean-energy technology that will once and for all end our dependence on foreign energy imports and Big Oil, we will continue to be held at the mercy of Wall Street speculators artificially driving up fuel prices.”
