U.S. Congressman Cicilline Offers Amendment to Fund Providence's First Responders
WASHINGTON, DC - This week, U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) offered his first amendment for a recorded vote in the House of Representatives. The amendment was offered in response to drastic cuts in funding to help the Providence area prevent and respond to a terrorist threat.
Congressman Cicilline offered it as an amendment to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2012 that would have restored important funds so Rhode Island's first responders could have the training and equipment they need to keep Providence safe.
Although this amendment was ultimately defeated in the Republican controlled house, it did receive bipartisan support.
