Cicilline Releases Statement on Potential Government Shutdown
Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman David Cicilline issued the following statement as negotiations continue to keep the government open:
“A government shutdown is not in the best interests of our country, will hurt our families and our economy, and a shutdown is completely avoidable because an agreement had been reached on budget numbers. But extreme members of the Republican caucus have hijacked the budget process and are holding it up with controversial policies regarding women’s health and the environment. Democratic leadership has offered Republicans many different opportunities to vote to keep the government open; again, Republicans have said no.
Rhode Islanders and all Americans expect us to work together and do what’s right for the future of our country. These high-stakes political games undermine the public’s confidance in government.”
In the event of a government shutdown, Congressman Cicilline will keep his offices open and in full operation during regular business hours in order to continue to provide information and services to his constituents during this confusing time. He and his staff will be available to answer any questions pertaining to the federal government.
