Congressman Cicilline Welcomes YouthBuild Student Leaders to Capitol Hill
Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (RI-D) met with YouthBuild participants Yajaira Cortes and Kevin Thomas in his office in Washington, D.C. Cortes and Thomas shared their experiences in YouthBuild and discussed the future of the program with Congressman Cicilline.
“It was a privilege to meet with Yajaira Cortes and Kevin Thomas who are making great contributions to their communities while furthering their education,” said Congressman Cicilline, “I applaud Yajaira and Kevin for their dedication and participation in Youth Build.”
Congressman Cicilline went on to say, “YouthBuild is providing a tangible value to vulnerable populations in our communities, growing the state’s workforce, and saving Rhode Island money. During these difficult economic times, the service that this program provides is priceless. The organization produces savings to the local, state, and federal government by decreasing dependence on social services and maximizing earnings potential. Most importantly, YouthBuild is providing young people with a successful career path.”
YouthBuild is an alternative education and workforce development program for disconnected youth ages 16-24. The organization allows youth to earn their GED or high school diploma while learning construction skills to build affordable housing for homeless and low-income people.
