Cicilline Votes to Hold Attorney General in Contempt

May 8, 2019

WASHINGTON – Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01), who serves on the House Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement today after voting to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress:

“This is a very grave moment for our country. No one is above the law, not even the chief law enforcement officer of the United States. The American people have now waited nearly two months for the Attorney General to turn over the complete Mueller report and the underlying evidence to Congress. Even after receiving a lawful subpoena, the Attorney General has refused to do so. In short, he has left us no choice but to hold him in contempt. The President and members of his administration cannot continue to stonewall the American people and prevent Congress from following the facts wherever they lead.”

“To be clear, this is only the first step. All options are on the table. We will get the answers that President Trump and Attorney General Barr are trying to hide from the American people.”
