Cicilline Statement on Trump’s Newest Attack on Working Families

Dec 4, 2019

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) released the following statement today after the Trump administration announced its new plan to kick more than 650,000 Americans, including approximately 7,300 Rhode Islanders off their Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program benefits by tightening work requirements for some recipients:

“This administration has proven time and time again that they will say they are for working families and seniors while simultaneously trying to undermine programs they rely on to get by. Now they’ve stooped so low that they’re trying to kick hundreds of thousands of folks off their SNAP benefits as we head into the holiday season.”

“House Democrats won’t stand idly by while President Trump continues his assault on hardworking families and seniors that are just trying to get ahead. This decision is a disgrace, and we will work to fix it.”
