Cicilline Statement on Republican, Trump Family Efforts to Intimidate Whistleblower

Nov 6, 2019

WASHINGTON – Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01), a member of the House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees, issued the following statement today:

“Although intimidating a federal whistleblower is a crime, it’s clear that won’t deter some Republicans in Congress, and even the President’s eldest son, from attempting to silence the individual who first came forward about the President’s effort to get a foreign country to interfere in the 2020 election.”

“The President’s allies know they cannot defend the President’s conduct. They know that virtually everything first alleged by the whistleblower has now been corroborated by other witnesses. It is sad that they are willing to break the law in order to defend this lawless President. These attempts to strong arm civil servants into silence should be investigated by the appropriate authorities.”
