Cicilline Praises Senate Deal on Third Round of Funding

Mar 25, 2020

PAWTUCKET – Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01) issued the following statement today:

“We are in the middle of an unprecedented public health crisis. The COVID-19 epidemic is impacting communities here in Rhode Island and all across America.”

“This third round of funding begins to meet the scale and severity of the challenges we face. It will provide significant resources to help Rhode Island hospitals treat their patients and keep health care workers safe. Although Mitch McConnell made clear over the past few days that he wanted to put corporations first, Democrats succeeded in our efforts to include real relief for families and working people.”

“I’m especially pleased that this bill addresses several priorities that I advocated for over the past week-and-a-half. These include $1.25 billion in economic aid for Rhode Island, $250 billion in direct cash payments to workers and their families, $367 billion for small businesses, $130 billion for our hospitals, and an average of four months of full pay for workers who are laid off as a result of this crisis.”

“I’ve already directed my staff to begin identifying additional priorities for Rhode Island. In the weeks ahead, I will continue working with Governor Raimondo and my colleagues in the Congressional Delegation to ensure we leave no stone unturned until this crisis has ended.”
