Cicilline Meets Troops in Iraq

Feb 24, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC –U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) recently participated in a bipartisan Congressional delegation fact-finding trip to Iraq. During his first visit to Iraq, Congressman Cicilline met with American military and civilian leaders and Iraqi government officials. Most importantly, he had the opportunity to speak with and thank our dedicated troops for their service.

“It was a true honor and privilege to shake the hands of soldiers stationed in Iraq,” said Congressman Cicilline. “This opportunity to visit Iraq with a bipartisan group of my colleagues will provide me with the insight necessary to make more informed decisions on behalf of my constituents serving there, and the American people as a whole, as we continue the transfer from a military to Iraqi government operation.”

As a member of this bipartisan delegation and member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Cicilline set a priority to review the operations in Iraq to gain a better understanding of our involvement there in preparation for a full transfer of responsibilities to the Iraqi government.
