Statement on the Killing of David Kato

Jan 28, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) today released the following statement in response to the murder of Ugandan LGBT Advocate, David Kato.

“I’m horrified at the brutal murder of Ugandan LGBT rights activist David Kato. As an international community we have a responsibility to condemn horrific acts of targeted violence against individuals based on sexual orientation, race, color, or religion.

“I extend my thoughts and prayers to David’s family, friends, and the millions of human rights workers around the world who mourn his loss and will continue the important work he cared about so deeply.  It is in times like these that we must recommit ourselves to ensure basic human rights and dignity – principles David dedicated his life to.”
