CUMBERLAND, RI – U.S. Representative David Cicilline (D-RI) was pleased to present the Cumberland American Little League Team with congressional recognition for their achievements at a pizza party he recently hosted for the players, coaches, and their family members at the House of Pizza.
“Congratulations to Cumberland American for working so hard and for showing such great sportsmanship in the World Series. In my record book, Cumberland American is a champion, not because it drove in the most runs or caught the most fly balls, but because of the dedication, respect and sportsmanship they showed while playing this great game,” said Congressman Cicilline.
The League President, Scott Schmitt, was delighted to be able to celebrate Cumberland American’s success with Congressman Cicilline. “We are very thankful that David took the time from his busy schedule to be with us, congratulate each player, and celebrate with the Cumberland American family of parents, grandparents and friends of the team,” said Schmitt.
Congressman Cicilline presented each team member with the official Congressional Record of the speech he delivered in their honor on the floor of the U.S. House Representatives. The speech can be viewed online on the Congressman’s YouTube channel.
This season marked Cumberland American’s first New England Regional Championship and their first time at the Little League World Series. Cumberland American was one of 16 teams out of 6,800 Little League All-Star teams that made it to the World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
