PAWTUCKET, RI – In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month and in honor of Rhode Island’s vibrant Latino community, U.S. Representative David Cicilline (D-RI) opened his District Office’s doors to present the “Mosaic of Latino Art” gallery.

“I cannot think of a better way to celebrate and share our district’s diverse Hispanic culture, than to host this art gallery, right here in my district office,” said Cicilline.  “I commend all of the artists on their artwork and thank them for giving everyone an opportunity to look into one of the cultures contributing to the prosperity of our nation.”

With the assistance of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, 15 local Latino artists participated in the first art gallery hosted by Congressman Cicilline exhibiting over 30 pieces representing Latin America. At the art gallery’s opening reception this past Saturday, Congressman Cicilline welcomed more than 60 people including community leaders, the participating artists and their families  and Johana Navarret, Consul of Mexico.

The “Mosaic of Latino Artgallery includes 35 pieces by local Latino artists representing countries such as Argentina, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. The array of artwork adorning the office walls will be exhibited in the First Congressional District Office from October 15 through November 13, 2011, Monday – Friday from 9:00-5:00 pm.
