Cicilline Applauds Senate Judiciary Committee Passage of the American Innovation and Choice Online Act

Jan 20, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial and Administrative Law and sponsor of H.R.3816, the American Innovation and Online Act, today applauded the Senate Judiciary Committee’s bipartisan vote to advance S.2992, the American Innovation and Choice Online Act. S.2992 is the Senate companion to H.R.3816.

“The Senate Judiciary Committee’s bipartisan passage of the American Innovation and Choice Online Act is a key victory in our work to rein in Big Tech. Unregulated tech giants have too much power over our economy and the American people. We need to hold them accountable for their anti-competitive conduct and restore choice and innovation online. Congratulations to Senator Klobuchar on today’s vote and her outstanding leadership.”

The House Committee on the Judiciary advanced H.R.3816, as well as five other bipartisan bills to hold Big Tech accountable, on June 24, 2021. These bills were borne out of the House Antitrust Subcommittee’s 16-month, top-to-bottom investigation into the state of competition in the digital marketplace, which included seven hearings, the production of nearly 1.3 million internal documents and communications, submissions from 38 antitrust experts, and interviews with more than 240 market participants.
