Cicilline Statement on the Selection of Paul Ryan as the Republican Vice Presidential Nominee

Aug 11, 2012 Issues: Jobs and the Economy

PAWTUCKET - U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement today on the selection of Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as the Republican vice-presidential nominee:

"I congratulate my colleague, Congressman Paul Ryan, on his selection as Governor Romney's vice-presidential nominee. Today's announcement, however, demonstrates that the American people have a clear choice between two very different visions for how we want to move forward as a country."

"In Congress, I strongly opposed Mr. Ryan's budget proposal that would have ended the Medicare guarantee, slashed funding for Pell grants, and extended more tax breaks for millionaires and corporations that ship American jobs overseas."

"These extreme proposals would be devastating for Rhode Island and our country, and I will continue to oppose them as I work to protect Medicare and Social Security, reinvigorate American manufacturing, and strengthen middle class families."
